First Ubuntu SmartPhone will launch in October 2013
The Ubuntu smartphone (which no one will use) is a glimpse of the future
Ubuntu's new mobile software will let users run their PC from their phone.
One of Linux's biggest players is heading to mobile. The new Ubuntu has a gesture heavy interface and will be entering the market amid a number of mature operating systems. We have reservations about how it will fair in the crowded mobile market but are interested to see how Canonical's open-source OS develops. Follow along here as Canonical works to bring mobile Ubuntu into consumers' hands.
Specifications
A “low end” Ubuntu Phone will require, at a minimum:
- Dual-core A9 ARM Processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 4GB Flash Storage + SD
- 800×400 WVGA Screen
- Multi-touch
The High-end Ubuntu Super Phone will come with :
- Quad-core A9 ARM Processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 32GB Flash + SD
- Minimum of 720p screen resolution
- Multi-touch
